Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is an 8-week course designed to reduce stress, improve wellbeing and increase your capacity to live with more presence.

The course involves 8 weekly 2.5 hour classes via zoom, a half-day silent meditation retreat, access to an app with guided meditations, a course book, as well as a commitment to home practice (approximately 45 minutes per day throughout the course). Originating in 1975, many thousands of people have completed MBSR courses making them some of the most studies mindfulness programs to exist. MBSR has a very strong evidence base, demonstrating its positive effects on stress, resilience, emotion regulation, pain, mental health, wellbeing and a number of physiological markers. The MBSR wikipedia page outlines this research further.

On a personal level, I have been practicing meditation for over 10 years, including numerous multi-day silent retreats. I have found MBSR to be such a rigorous program, suitable for people who have never meditated before, as well as experienced mediators wanting to deepen their practice.

I recently completed my year-long mindfulness meditation teacher training, centred around the MBSR curriculum. I am running my first course at a heavily discounted rate of $120 (most MBSR courses cost around $600) so as to cover my overhead costs. This includes access to the app and the course book.

My first course will be run over Zoom on Tuesday evenings, starting weekly on Tuesday August 5, finishing Tuesday September 23. Classes will be from 6:30pm-9pm. There will also be a half-day silent retreat on Saturday September 6.
